Getting Serious About Pre-Cut Scraps

I have been working real hard since last January to use up most of the pre-cut scraps that I have in my Scrap User System drawers in my Quilt Studio.

These are all strips that I have cut up and put in designated drawers for years. I have some very old fabric in these drawers and some of them are very ugly. I am on a mission to sew up two drawers of dark 2" strips that I really want to use up.

Here are the two drawers with what is left after sewing for 2 days.

Here are the strips I have sewn together so far. I am sure I will have twice this amount when I get all of the strips sewn together. I will be pressing, trimming and cutting each set into 2" subsets. These will all be made into little 4 patches. I will be making the Double Irish Chain quilt from Bonnie Hunter's website. This is a free pattern and I have made one of these before. I may have enough 4 patches to make another one of Bonnie's quilts. We will see what happens.

I have also been very busy getting my orphan log cabin block chicken pin cushions almost all finished.

Here is my little flock of 8. I have more besides these but I gave one to my daughter Jenny and I have one next to my machine using it right now.

This is a close up. I have not added the eyes to any of them because I don't have any black beaded pins. Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Co. indicated that she used black beaded pins for their eyes so I guess I need to pick up a few pins.

This is all I have finished for this week so I will talk again next week.

A Little Progress

I have made a little progress in the Quilt Studio this week and I am very happy about that. Each week I am feeling better and less tired.

I have completed the quilt top for my husband that is the flannel shirts from his Dad's shirts. So this is a memory quilt. Dad passed away last November.

This quilt measures 85" by 85" right now.

I am going to add a 2" border and so this quilt will end up being very large. I auditioned this homespun light blue and brown for it but I do not like it. I have purchased a dark brown fabric for the border and a lovely green and tan flannel for the back. I will be showing more of this quilt when I have completed the quilting and binding. Stay tuned.

Little Elise has been helping in the quilt studio again.

Here she is trying to get into my pictures on the floor.

She is wearing the dress her mother made her a week or two ago.

These are my Craftsy blocks for the month. This is in different purples and is called the Curved Chain block.

This one is in all the same purples and is called Cleopatra's Puzzle. These complete my blocks for the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I won't be linking this month because I am off on the color for the month. The color this month is orange. Hop over to Angel's blog to see other orange projects that are going on this month.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge-September-Purple

I have been linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year but I am off on the colors this month again. When Angela made purple the color of the month a while ago I jumped the gun and chose orange. Sooooo, this month she chose orange and I am doing purple.

These are my 10 string blocks and the extra 2 1/2 by 6 1/2 inch blocks.

This is the 10 9-patch blocks I am making.

I still have my Craftsy blocks to make for this month. Also because I am off on the color again this month I will not be linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge but go over and check out orange for the month. The projects are fun!

Odds N Ends

There has been a little bit of sewing going on in the Quilt Studio but not all by me.

Jenny, my daughter, has been busy making sun dresses.

This is the second one she has made. It is for Katya. The first one she made was for Elise but I don't have a picture of that one yet.

She has also been making a book bag for Hunter.

At Hunter's school they do not allow back packs so Jenny and Hunter designed this bag and he is very happy.

Things are going well for my recovery so I will be showing some progress I am making in the Quilt Studio later.

What I Have Done So Far With the Rainbow Scrap Challenge

In June many followers of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge showed their progress with all the blocks they had made so far with the Challenge. I am a little behind but decided to show two sets of blocks I have been working on for this Challenge.

These are my string blocks I am making for the Basket Weave quilt on Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville. This is a free pattern she offers and since I love making string blocks I thought this would be a great quilt to make.

This is my little quilt model Elise. She wanted her picture taken when I was taking the picture above.

These are the Craftsy blocks I have completed. I do have one more block made since I took this picture. There are 4 more blocks to complete this quilt. I should have no trouble finishing this top by the end of the year.

I have another blog post to write. I am just trying hard to catch up with everything I have going.

July Rainbow Scrap Challenge Finished

At the first of August I finished my July Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks but with the upcoming surgery I have not been able to blog about my completions.

I have not been very good about paying close attention to the details of this challenge so when Angela had us do green I didn't notice she meant medium to dark green and I just did all green no matter the shade. So when she said to do green in August I decided I would do all those fabrics I have that have many colors in them and no particular one to identify it to go with the monthly color.

These are the 9-patches. There are 10.

These are the 10 string blocks and the bonus 2 1/2 inch strips.

This is one of my Craftsy blockswith a cute fish.

This is my second Craftsy block. I made a small mistake in the fabric in the corner stones on the outside edge but I have decided to leave it as is.

This is all I have for this post. More to come later.
