Mystery Quilt 2018 Completed

This is the Bonnie Hunter annual mystery quilt for 2018.

I was able to stay up with the clues each time and put the top together some time in February.

Although I am happy with the results of the quilt I don';t really like the colors of the quilt. I am not a fan of red and orange together. The quilt is very dramatic looking though.

This quilt is going to Lindsy, April & Kerry's adopted daughter. It's a long story so I won't explain it.

This quilt is the usual many small pieces that Bonnie is known for. Most of the quilt is from my stash. I purchased a few fat quarters so I could have more variety in the quilt.

2nd Completion for 2017

I am so happy today for this completion! I have done several of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilts over the years and I have always felt good if I can get them finished before the next mystery starts. The mysteries always start the day after Thanksgiving.

This is called En Provence.

I used up allot of stash in this quilt. The only thing I bought was the magenta (dark pink) (1 1/2 yd) for this quilt.

I also used a king size cotton sheet I got at the thrift store. I paid $6 for it. This cotton is so soft!

I used the Whirly Gig panto with a variegated Superior thread.

I have given this quilt to Jenny. Just because!

I am still hard at work on the two labor intensive quilts that I am determined to have finished before Spring!

Odds N Ends

I have decided that I need to update a few items that I haven't blogged about yet.

This is just a few blocks from Bonnie Hunter's book "Scraps & Shirttails. It is called 'Virginia Bound!" I really wanted to make this whole quilt, I even printed out all of the paper for the star points back in 2008. I finally came to the realization that I would never make the entire quilt so I decided to make up this much for a wall hanging in my spare bedroom.  I know you can't see that the paint on the wall is a pretty mint green but I made these stars in purples and greens to go with the decor in this room.  I really liked the lacy looking white star in the center so I put this together to showcase that star.

These two little Sunbonnet Sues are from my first twin sized bed right after getting out of my crib. Of course this quilt totally fell into shreds but I could not let it go all of these years because my grandmother made it for me. I finally just this year salvaged these two little girls to make a wall hanging. I am looking at them as I post this blog. I loved my grandmother so much!

This is the toilet topper I made for my half bath last winter. I painted this bathroom a bright and sunny yellow which you cannot see in this picture.

I was reading the first talk given in the Women's conference in October and the title was "I will bring the light of the gospel into my home" I got real excited when I realized I still had this embroidery from when I was in Primary. It is my first embroidery! I didn't finish it because I had run out of the orange thread. I debated about completing the house and my initials but then thought better of it and I have left it just as it is. I quilted it, framed it and hang it in the yellow bathroom.  I love it!

I have decided to make the mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. She does a mystery every November-December but I don't do them every year.  Her quilts are very intense and require allot of time so I can't bring myself to do them every year. The 1st clue came out the day after Thanksgiving and I have completed them all plus an extra 100. The second clue came out today and I will be buying the one and only piece of fabric for this quilt. It is magenta and I need 1 1/2 yards then I will start working on this clue.

This is going to be a charity baby quilt. I am using some of the extra 4-patches from the mystery quilt and some 4-patches that I have had made up for a couple of years. I think it will be very scrappy and very cute.

This is what I have on the HQ. I have not started the quilting yet but I will get started probably next week. It is number 19 of the Big Project of 21.

Completion #5 of the Big Project for 2015

I have another completion for 2015. This is the 5th quilt in the Big Project I have going on.

This is the mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter last year.

Again I just barely got the mystery quilt finished before the next one starts.

I used the Whirly Gig pantogram with hot pink thread from Superior Threads.

This is a very busy quilt and does not show the quilting on the front but it looks pretty good on the back.

A Beautiful Completion

I have a beautiful completion to show.

This is the first quilt in my big project. I have 21 quilts to make and I figure it will take 2-3 years to complete this project.

This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt called Floribunda. I used a very light yellow as the neutral.

This has every flowered fabric in my stash that was big enough to use. I used a light yellow flowered fabric for the backing.

I quilted it with Fays Feathers and a cream colored thread. The only thing this quilt needs is a label. I will be making all the labels at once and I plan to get them all made in the next few weeks.

Quilt of Valor Completion-2015

I am happy to say that I have the final Quilt of Valor completed.

This quilt is exactly like the first Quilt of Valor I finished in May.

The star points on these stars were left over from my Smith Mountain quilt.that I made a couple of years ago.

I decided I needed to use up these points because they were already made and they would make a wonderful Quilt of Valor.

I backed this quilt with a light blue flannel with little stars.  I quilted it with the spiral squares pantogram. This quilt needs to be delivered across the street to my neighbor soon

I am so glad to have finished these quilts so I am now concentrating my energy and time on the big project I have going now.  This project consists of many quilts.

Some Stuff that is Going on in the Quilt Studio

I have several things going on in the Quilt Studio at this time.

On the design wall is half of the blocks for a new quilt that was started in May.  It is for a special project and I am loving how it is turning out. The quilt is from Bonnie Hunter and is called Floribunda. I have loved this quilt ever since Bonnie showed us an antique quilt she had found and she replicated it. I didn't have time to do this then but I really wanted to use this pattern for this project.

This is the Grand Illusion mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter and I am almost done with the outside pieced borders. This is a beautiful quilt and will be for someone special.

On my cutting table are pieces from the Floribunda quilt and also another new start which I haven't discussed on the blog yet. It is another special project and is from Jenny Doan. It is called Chevron and I think it will be great looking when I start getting it together. I am using recycled shirts and fabric from my stash only.

So What is Happening at Scrap Quilt Heaven?

I am happy to say I have been working very hard to finish blocks up that I have been using as Leader N Enders this last winter. I am tired of looking at and working on them so I finished up a bunch.

This is the blue flannel backing that I have ready to sew together for the last Quilt of Valor that is ready for quilting.  I will show this quilt when it has been completed.

This is my empty design wall. I just finished putting together the last block for a sampler quilt I was working on last winter and I put the top together yesterday. I will show it when I decide how I am going to do the borders to make it bigger.

This is my empty cutting table.

But I think I will work on cutting up these scraps today and get them into the correct bins.

These are the next three sets of blocks I am going to use as Leaders N Enders for the next few months. I talked about these in a previous post. I am getting excited to work on these new projects.

I have finished all of these blocks and have two tops together for 2 baby quilts. I have more of these blocks made but I will put them away for now and I will probably end up putting the extras into an orphan block quilt down the road.

These are the last units for the Grand Illusion quilt. I will now put the sashings on the blocks that I have all completed. This quilt is finally making some progress.

This is all I have this week but I am sure I will have some finished quilts to show soon.

Grandson's Quilt is Done!

I have finished the quilt I was showing in the last post. All that is left is a label.

This is the first time I have made a fully pieced quilt for a grandson..Leif is the last grandson to get a quilt. He is the youngest grandson.

I didn't have the extra money to buy a center piece of fabric with matching borders this time.

I also just love this pattern. I have used it many times for a Quilt of Valor quilt.

The brown stars are left over from my Smith Mountain quilt and I think the orange rails look great.

This is what else I have going in the Quilt Studio

I have a few other things going on in the Quilt Studio to update on.

This is my grandson's quilt on the HQ. I have two rows left to quilt and then it will be done.

This was on my design wall but it is now all sewn together and is now waiting to be pressed and measured for the borders. Almost finished. Yeah!

This is Floribunda from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. I started this just before I went to the Quilt Walk. It will also be a full to queen sized quilt.

And last but not least is my Grand Illusion blocks. I have 3/4s of these blocks finished but it has been on the back burner because of more urgent quilts that needed attention.

Time for Summer to Begin

I don't have a completion quite yet but I do have some progress.

This quilt on the design wall is a charity quilt made from Bonnie Hunter called Basket Weave. I made it with strings on used fabric sheets. This quilt smells great. I have a few more rows to sew together then I am on to the borders. I have a pieced border cut off from the blocks in all the colors and I will be using them in the outside border. Can't wait to have this one done.

This is a charity quilt also. It is from my grand daughter Lizzy. She started it over 2 years ago and it is time to get it out the door. I put on completely scrappy borders and I am calling it good. I also pieced the backing for it.

This is my cutting table as of yesterday. I have been cleaning up a bin I had of scraps I had just thrown in the bin this last year. Now they can be used in some more quilts. Yeah!

Slowly Slowly

My weeks get by me so easily. Not sure why but I am scrabbling to get all my inside house chores done before spring jumps in full blast and then all my extra time is spent in the yard.

I am going to show a little progress here and there.

The design wall still has the Quilt of Valor but I only have 8 alternate blocks to make and then I will put this top together. Getting excited about another top being completed.

I have completed two blocks for the mystery quilt Grand Illusion. Yeah! Progress!

I have finished cutting out the strips for the stars and will be continuing to use these blocks as leader enders for now. I have decided who I will be making this quilt for. It will be for  my youngest grand daughter.

I have not done any quilting on the HQ but in the next week or so I will be finishing the many little projects I have waiting there.
