Huge Complicated Completion

I have a completion!

This quilt has been two years in the making.

The sun was very bright on Monday and so the colors are washed out.

This quilt was a Craftsy class that I purchased the whole kit. It was a Block of the month in 2015.
I started a little late in 2015 and I dragged my feet on it.  It is a Jinny Beyer quilt. She is a perfectionist! I am not! So you can imagine my frustration!

Ron wanted me to make this quilt because he knew I wouldn't do it without a push.  He purchased the backing from Nuttal's. I pushed for a very dark backing because I didn't want the quilting to show. The cost alone was enough to stop me from doing this quilt at all.

Jinny likes to hand piece! I do not! There is also paper piecing in this quilt and I don't like doing that much.

I thought it would be best to use black batting so there would not be any bearding. I custom quilted it. I am not very good at custom quilting! Most of it is OK but there are mistakes every where. I will not point out any of them because most people will not see the mistakes. They just jump out at me.

I am just happy this quilt is done! I finished it last weekend. I loaded another quilt on Monday and it is now quilted and I am doing the hand stitching of the binding. Yeah! I have another quilt loaded on the HQ and hopefully I will have it off early next week.

Odds N Ends

I have decided that I need to update a few items that I haven't blogged about yet.

This is just a few blocks from Bonnie Hunter's book "Scraps & Shirttails. It is called 'Virginia Bound!" I really wanted to make this whole quilt, I even printed out all of the paper for the star points back in 2008. I finally came to the realization that I would never make the entire quilt so I decided to make up this much for a wall hanging in my spare bedroom.  I know you can't see that the paint on the wall is a pretty mint green but I made these stars in purples and greens to go with the decor in this room.  I really liked the lacy looking white star in the center so I put this together to showcase that star.

These two little Sunbonnet Sues are from my first twin sized bed right after getting out of my crib. Of course this quilt totally fell into shreds but I could not let it go all of these years because my grandmother made it for me. I finally just this year salvaged these two little girls to make a wall hanging. I am looking at them as I post this blog. I loved my grandmother so much!

This is the toilet topper I made for my half bath last winter. I painted this bathroom a bright and sunny yellow which you cannot see in this picture.

I was reading the first talk given in the Women's conference in October and the title was "I will bring the light of the gospel into my home" I got real excited when I realized I still had this embroidery from when I was in Primary. It is my first embroidery! I didn't finish it because I had run out of the orange thread. I debated about completing the house and my initials but then thought better of it and I have left it just as it is. I quilted it, framed it and hang it in the yellow bathroom.  I love it!

I have decided to make the mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. She does a mystery every November-December but I don't do them every year.  Her quilts are very intense and require allot of time so I can't bring myself to do them every year. The 1st clue came out the day after Thanksgiving and I have completed them all plus an extra 100. The second clue came out today and I will be buying the one and only piece of fabric for this quilt. It is magenta and I need 1 1/2 yards then I will start working on this clue.

This is going to be a charity baby quilt. I am using some of the extra 4-patches from the mystery quilt and some 4-patches that I have had made up for a couple of years. I think it will be very scrappy and very cute.

This is what I have on the HQ. I have not started the quilting yet but I will get started probably next week. It is number 19 of the Big Project of 21.

I just wanted to post to my blog to show that I am still alive and well but that I have not done anything in my Quilt Studio since May.

I do not have anything on my design wall at this moment.

I loaded this Quilt of Valor in May but I have not done any quilting on it.

I have not been able to piece anything since June when I went to the Quilt Walk in Panquitch, UT.
I did not get the two quilts I started there to a complete top at the time of my classes so I have nothing to show on them.

I have a few odd scraps on my cutting mat that need to be trimmed down but I have not had the time to do that chore either.

I could put some pictures of the yard and veggie beds but that would not be very interesting. I have done plum jam and some tomato soup with tomatoes from my garden as far as bottling goes. I will be picking up peaches and pears next Monday to bottle and then I will go on to tomato juice. I will finish up with apples after that.
I have been very busy with my mother taking her to different doctors. She is doing better now so things should start to settle down around here so I can get back to piecing.

For now, I will try real hard in the next month to get back into my Quilt Studio. I miss it so much!

Another Big Project Completion-14

I have completed number 14 of the 21 Big Project Quilts. This will be the last one to be completed for a couple of months now. I am getting very busy in the yard and I cannot do everything at full tilt anymore. I will complete two quilt tops at the Panquitch Quilt Walk in June but I will not be quilting them until late summer or early Fall. I will be concentrating on a quilt I started last Fall for my husband. It is a quilt kit that I bought on Craftsy and it will be what I work on continuously for the next few months.

This is a sampler quilt I did with Craftsy a couple of years ago while I was doing a color by month blog challenge.

I think it turned out pretty good. It was too small for what I needed so I added a 4-patch inner border and then a small outer border.

Some of these blocks I enjoyed and others I did not. But this way I was trying some new things and that always stretches me some.

I quilted it with the Whirly Gig and it turned out pretty good.

I will keep plugging away in the Quilt Studio as I have time.

Another Completion!

I am happy today I have another completion with another one soon to be completed.

I am very happy to have this string quilt done. I started it a couple of years ago. I was following a blog where each month a different color of fabric was used to make what ever block we wanted to make.

This pattern is from Bonnie Hunter. It is called Basket Weave.

I quilted it with the Whirly Gig pantogram. I love all the colors in this quilt.

The next quilt I show will be another one of these quilts where I used certain colors of fabric for each month. It is a sampler quilt.

For now I need to do the hand stitching on the next quilt so I will Keep on Stitchin!

Number 11 Completed for the Big Project

I have completed another quilt.

This quilt is number 11 in the Big Project. It is called Merry Go Round by Jenny Doan. The colors in the quilt are a bit wash out from the bright morning sun.

The center of the quilt was the pattern but I needed a bit bigger quilt so I added the pieced border.

I quilted it with the Baptist Fan groovy board that came with my HQ. It is one of my favorite designs.

There are several recycled shirts in this quilt. One is from my father in law and several are from my husband and even a couple from my shirts. I think this makes the quilts somewhat of a memory quilt.

I have another quilt on the HQ and a wall hanging that I want to complete right away. I will Keep Scrappin away!

Works in Progress-No Completions

I have work in progress but I do not have completions at this time. Soon!

This is the quilt I have on the HQ. It is a Jenny Doan design. I will probably have it completed by next week.

This is my blank design wall. But this does not mean I am NOT working on something!

This is the block I am working on right now. I need it right in front of me as I sew the blocks or I will mix it up for sure.  It is another Jenny Doan design.

Red N White Quilt-9th for Big Project

Here is another completion for 2016 and for the Big Project!

 

This is the red n white quilt I started 3-4 years ago to be a Valentine quilt for my bed.

I wanted it to be like a miniature quilt display. I struggled and struggled with it to come out as I had in my mind but I feel like it is not quite what I had in mind.

So I decided that it would make a wonderful quilt for this Big Project that I have been working on.

I quilted it with a muted red Superior So Fine thread with the Whirlygig pantogram.

This quilt was fun to try all the different blocks all in red and white fabrics. Totally scrappy!

A Beautiful Quilt Completed

I am so happy to say that I have another completion of a beautiful quilt!

This is the lovely quilt that I completed last week.

I used white Superior thread and used the Whirlgig pantogram.

This is a quilt I started last June at the Quilt Walk.

It is full of flowers and will be for a girl. It is the 8th completion in the Big Project I am working on.

I almost have the next quilt top ready for quilting. Hopefully it will be on the HQ by Monday.

Finally Some Progress!

I have finally made some progress in the Quilt Studio! I don't have completions yet but I do have progress!

This is what I have on the design wall right now. I started this quilt last June while I was in Panquitch,UT at the Quilt Walk.

This is what I have on the HQ. I will have it off tomorrow morning and then I have another top all ready to load and quilt.

This quilt is very close to being ready to quilt and I am very happy about this one too. It is the Quilt of Valor that I decided at the last moment to start last September. This makes 5 Quilts of Valor in less than a years time. This will be next in line to quilt after the above mentioned one. I have the backing for this one. I  just need to piece it together. I always do flannel backing for the Quilts of Valor.

Time in my Quilt Studio-Very Limited!

I have had limited time in my Quilt Studio since last month. I have done things in there, here and there, but not accomplished too much to show.

I have this quilt top is almost completed, I just need the outer pieced border. I have it all cut out but need to put it all together. I don't have a backing for it though.This is the quilt I started in Panquitch, UT last June.

This is the quilt on my design wall. It is another Quilt of Valor and as soon as I get the two quilts talked about above done I will power through this quilt. On top will be 3-4 wonky stars. I haven't planned much more for this yet.

This is a new quilt that I am starting. This is a Block of the Month from Craftsy. It is a Jinny Beyer quilt. She does beautiful work but her quilts have very time consuming piecing involved. My husband wanted me to make this quilt for him. I think this is because he knew I wouldn't buy the class and kit on my own. It is very expensive but I think in the end it will be worth it. This is the January block. I have it all cut and ready to start hand sewing the block together.

This the February block and I have everything ready to cut out. I hope to get a good start on these blocks after the holidays.

Things are Progressing

Here is what I have in the works in the Quilt Studio.

This is my design wall. I have another of the Herringbone quilts ready to sew together. This will be another of the quilts in the Big Project. I got all of these blocks made while in Phoenix, AZ last week.

This is my Singer Featherweight set up on the dining room table. I am trying to finish the blocks for this next quilt. I have 4 more blocks to complete.

This is called the Stain Glass Window quilt that I started in June while at the Panquitch Quilt Walk. I hope to have these done in the next day or two.
